StenSilan® T is a single-component, silane-based water-repellent impregnation material for surfaces such as brick, tile, unglazed ceramics, aerated concrete elements, precast concrete panels, floor tiles and natural stone. It chemically bonds to mineral surfaces and gives them a hydrophobic (water-repellent) character, so treated surfaces do not get wet or retain water-soluble contaminants. It is a low-viscosity transparent fluid with high surface covering and diffusion properties. As it forms no separate layer, it carries none of the peeling, separating, embrittlement or slipperiness risks of other impregnation-type materials.
Areas of Use
StenSilan® T is used to protect clay-based surfaces such as brick, tile and unglazed ceramic, as well as highly absorbent mineral surfaces such as precast concrete tiles and panels, aerated concrete elements and natural stone, against water penetration and staining. By forming a deep hydrophobic structure it keeps the surface from getting wet or stained by water-soluble substances, and the surface cleans easily with water. Since the material does not absorb water, it is protected from appearance-spoiling factors such as salt and lime efflorescence. It stops liquid water while keeping water-vapor permeability at the same level as an uncoated surface, so the surface still breathes. By preventing water absorbed in micro cracks from freezing and deforming the surface, it prolongs coating life.
Features & Advantages
- Single-component, silane-based, low-viscosity transparent fluid
- Very high surface covering and penetration into the material
- Creates a deep hydrophobic structure without a film layer
- Lets the surface breathe
- Liquids on the surface wipe away easily and leave no stain
- Resistant to UV radiation and increases the durability of the coated surface
- Prevents salt efflorescence on absorptive surfaces during drying
- Maintains protection for 2-5 years depending on penetration depth and surface abrasion
